TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG IDEA I already own and operate Nurtured Minds Wellness and Therapy Services, which is a new private practice in Leduc. I recently purchased 40 acres of forest near Wizard Lake, with the intention of creating a safe and accessible natural area for folk to retreat to. I will offer nature-based therapy- but my big idea is to build a yurt to use as group space, and also a 'yoga pad' where I can sub-contract to yoga instructors whom would like to be able to offer yoga in a nature-based setting. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL FOR YOUR IDEA? Summer 2022 build yoga pad and start having community come for small retreat events. WHO DO YOU HOPE TO IMPACT THE MOST WITH YOUR IDEA? Anyone who wishes to incorporate nature into their wellness journey. Anyone who wishes to access nature but needs the safety of skilled and knowledgeable supports. HOW LONG WILL THIS IDEA TAKE TO IMPLEMENT? This is a 5 year plan, however for summer 2022 the yoga pad could be built in a weekend. WHAT MAKES YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY? Our communities are struggling, some with obvious mental health challenges and other people are just feeling 'blah'. I am new to this community, but it is my community and one I plan to raise my children in. I would like to be a part of seeing this community heal and grow after a difficult few years. Nurtured Minds will be a place that people can relax, unwind, learn about themselves, grow, connect and move forward.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG IDEA To help nonprofits have promotional videos to show what they do, and to get proper funding for social needs in the community. We plan on working with five non-profit charities. Including Santa's Helpers, The Hub, The Leduc & District Food Bank, Rise Up Society, and Dylan's Hope Foundation. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL FOR YOUR IDEA? To bring more awareness to nonprofits in the community. We are aware the affects Covid has had on these charities and their funding. The videos we make for each nonprofit will remind people of their amazing work and how much they give to the local community. WHO DO YOU HOPE TO IMPACT THE MOST WITH YOUR IDEA? We hope to impact these charities and the public. To bring more awareness and leave an impact on people so they will see the great work they do. We hope these videos will boost donations and funding for each charity. HOW LONG WILL THIS IDEA TAKE TO IMPLEMENT? For 5 videos, we estimate 2 months to be completed (dependent on charity availability). WHAT MAKES YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY? It's important to ensure my community stays vibrant, healthy and supportive. I'm looking into raise my family here, and I want my future children to grow up in a supportive community that encourages and helps each other. Videography is also a passion of mine, and to have the opportunity to share my skill to support others is a dream come true!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG IDEA Our idea for Southfork includes 3 opportunities for community engagement and community good. We want to broaden our application so many individuals of the public can be positively impacted. Initiative one: Celebrating Diversity, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Our first initiative celebrates our community diversity. Friday September 30th, 2022 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation also known as Orange Shirt Day. Southfork Community Connections is committed to embracing our diversity and recognizes Southfork is located on Treaty 6 Territory. This day is an opportunity to share Indigenous culture. In addition, we plan to make this event barrier free for those attending. The event will take place at a time to include partnerships with the local school, community members, Indigenous partners, visitors and the broader public. We will plan to offer a community smudge offered by either an Elder or Indigenous knowledge keeper, a prayer, dancers and/or drummers (if possible) or someone to host/teach the traditional games of ‘hand games’ and free bannock. For this initiative we would collaborate with local partners such as Indigenous knowledge keepers, community members from the Indigenous population and support Indigenous businesses for purchases such as smudge items and bannock. We will offer rock painting with the theme of Indigenous culture/ Orange Shirt Day as a takeaway for attendees. These rocks can also be placed throughout the community. Initiative Two: Connecting through reading Our second initiative is providing two little book libraries in Southfork. We want to create barrier free opportunities for access to books and literature. A recent callout to our community members through social media resulted in an outpour of donations of free books. This inspiring support from our local residents suggests that an opportunity for ongoing free books would be of great value to those who live, work, play or visit our community. The project would consist of collaborating and empowering numerous community partners including: -local volunteers to help build the little book library structures. -Local schools and community groups to help decorate the structures. -City of Leduc to determine appropriate location and permitting of the structures -City of Leduc Library to support the importance of literacy and access to books across the lifespan. Reading and literacy are important aspects to our individual growth but little book libraries encourage people to share resources, have access to free books and to embrace the pleasure of reading. We can also highlight our community gifts and skills by including partners to reduce costs and to encourage our project success. Initiative Three: First Month Our third initiative includes a Winter/ New Year activity for our community and the public. The initiative is called “First Month''. The month of January is commonly a time when families experience financial strain, social isolation and have less community connection. Southfork Community Connections is committed to reducing this social isolation by offering an activity during this month to bring people together in an indoor environment. Our initiative is to offer a family movie and pizza night to the public. The intention would be to have families vote on a movie and support a local business to offer pizza. Our intention is to remove the financial burden of a movie night and offer this experience for anyone interested in coming. We would collaborate with the local school, community members and local businesses to reduce associated costs. As the impact of financial strain increases, the importance of community lead initiatives also increases. Our communities now more than ever need to rely on each other to create experiences for intentional community connections. Southfork Community Connections relies on projects such as the Flock Project for our ideas to become a reality. The Flock project is a perfect initiative to partner with Southfork Community Connections as it can support financially and also support through mentorship to broaden our awareness, our knowledge on community impact and community outreach. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL FOR YOUR IDEA? The main goal of our big idea is to create opportunities for our community to engage with no barriers. While we engage, we get to learn about our community, our similarities and our diversity. It is important to us that everyone feels welcome in Southfork. We open our events and activities to the broad public so that people from everywhere can experience community lead initiatives. We are a supporter of communities leading change and envision Southfork as a place to grow and build lifelong relationships. WHO DO YOU HOPE TO IMPACT THE MOST WITH YOUR IDEA? We hope to impact our Southfork community, all ages, races, cultures and identities. In addition to that, we hope to impact our neighbors and those who visit our community. We want people to see Southfork as inviting, engaging and an empowered community to live, work, play and visit. HOW LONG WILL THIS IDEA TAKE TO IMPLEMENT? August 2022- August 2023 WHAT MAKES YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY? When I think about community, I think back to my childhood and living in a safe, connected environment. I knew my neighbours, they knew me and my parents allowed me to freely explore my community without worry. In many areas today, we are fortunate if we simply know our neighbours first name, let alone their last name. The art of being neighbourly has diminished due to work lives, activities and our responsibilities. To have the opportunity to connect with our neighbours is now a gift. After experiencing a pandemic and the trauma of not having access to our extended families, our neighbours became our lifelines. We need to connect, to have the opportunity to engage and to have pride in our community. We need to embrace our culture, our diversity and empower our community to come together. I want my children and for the children and families in our community of Southfork to feel connected and safe. I am proud to be part of Southfork and passionate about the power of community. I know our community is able to create a culture of connection simply from how far we have grown since the creation of our Southfork Community Connections Committee.
