TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG IDEA Emotional empowerment is an essential skill that can be enhanced with the I Am Heart program. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL OF YOUR PROJECT? The goal is to provide individuals with useful tools for emotional identification, emotional expression and self-awareness in expressing emotions resulting in positive, healthy relationships. Having the ability to provide facilitator program training will open an opportunity to offer this type of programming throughout the community continually. WHO DO YOU HOPE TO IMPACT THE MOST WITH YOUR IDEA? The impact will be with boys between the ages of 8-12-year-old boys resulting in an improved attitude, behavior, and a stronger sense of self as who they are and how they ‘really’ feel. The facilitator training program will provide an impact with influential members of the community to support and guidance to children. HOW LONG WILL THIS IDEA TAKE TO IMPLEMENT? (FROM "LAUNCH TO "LANDING") The connections to facilitate the program have already been established through the speaker and school liaisons. Offering the facilitator training program will involve connecting with the different organizations in the community, sharing the opportunity and the benefits this training will provide on an ongoing basis. WHAT ARE AREAS OF EXPERTISE THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL IN SUPPORTING YOUR PROJECT? To provide programming for those in need is a mission at the Food Bank. Having the ability to support endeavours for healthy growth in the community is crucial in this challenging time. The attendees from the previous I am Heart program will be the initial contact, followed by those on the wait-list of the prior session. "Helping you up, giving you hope"
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG IDEA To provide access 24/7 to basic needs to those living in unstable conditions in the City of Leduc. This would be realized by having an outdoor accessible cabinet that is filled with water bottles, energy drinks, socks, toiletries, flashlights, snack foods, books to read, information pamphlets. This would be placed in a location near the Leduc Hub office which is monitored by 24-hour surveillance. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL FOR YOUR BIG IDEA? To allow access of basics needs 24/7 to those that may not be comfortable or able to access help in an office environment, especially on weekends when no social support services are open. WHO DO YOU HOPE TO IMPACT THE MOST WITH YOUR IDEA? With the population of temporarily un-housed increasing in the area, we would be targeting the homeless. If others, like Moms with young kids walking by, wanted to take advantage, they would be welcome as well. Realizing there would be no control as to whom may open the cupboard and take items, we are confident it would serve those who we wish to target. HOW LONG WILL THIS IDEA TAKE TO IMPLEMENT? (FROM "LAUNCH TO "LANDING") Very little time would be needed to set up a cabinet and secure it-one month maximum. WHAT ARE AREAS OF EXPERTISE THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL IN SUPPORTING YOUR PROJECT? A cement pad poured to hold and anchor cabinet. GIVE A BREAKDOWN OF HOW MUCH YOU THINK YOUR IDEA WILL COST: Cement work:$700 Cabinet: $2500 Signage: $200 WHAT RESOURCES DO YOU ALREADY HAVE IN PLACE (PEOPLE, SKILLS, PAST-EXPERIENCE, FINANCES)? We have the place, the people to keep it stocked, and the donors to supply the goods. HAVE YOU OR COULD YOU PARTNER/COLLABORATE WITH OTHER GROUPS TO MAKE YOUR IDEA HAPPEN? We would be happy to partner with other social agencies to make this happen. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR IDEA NEEDED MORE FUNDING TO SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCH? Run a campaign from the Leduc Hub to fund it. WHAT MAKES YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY? Living here for 47 years and volunteering for an agency that supports low income families and the most vulnerable in our community in numerous ways.20.over 1 year ago
City wide garage sale
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG IDEA Every year a weekend in spring (ex: first weekend of June) would be designated as a city wide garage sale. This would be announced by the City of Leduc and could be added to their garbage day calendar and other social media outlets. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL FOR YOUR BIG IDEA? To make it easy for people to dispose house hold items. It's a lot of work to set up a garage sale. Posting signs are illegal. Even if you do post signs up, very few people show up due to limited exposure. Other communities who have a town or city wide garage sale has been a huge success. Literally 100's of customers will show up. WHO DO YOU HOPE TO IMPACT THE MOST WITH YOUR IDEA? Great for the environment. Much less garbage will end up at the Landfill. Residence can make a little bit of extra money. So easy to do, place your stuff in your driveway and a lot of people will show up. HOW LONG WILL THIS IDEA TAKE TO IMPLEMENT? (FROM "LAUNCH TO "LANDING") No time needed. City of Leduc would simply pick a weekend that would be consistent every year. A spring weekend would be best. That is typically the time when residences like to do what is commonly known as a spring clean up. WHAT ARE AREAS OF EXPERTISE THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL IN SUPPORTING YOUR PROJECT? None needed. GIVE A BREAKDOWN OF HOW MUCH YOU THINK YOUR IDEA WILL COST: Another great benefit: the cost is zero to the city and residences. WHAT RESOURCES DO YOU ALREADY HAVE IN PLACE (PEOPLE, SKILLS, PAST-EXPERIENCE, FINANCES)? No resources needed. Past experience is that I lived in Devon for 4 years. Every year they have this town wide garage sale. Its a huge success. The town is abuzz in activity. A chance to get rid of a lot of stuff you no longer need and get to know your neighbours. HAVE YOU OR COULD YOU PARTNER/COLLABORATE WITH OTHER GROUPS TO MAKE YOUR IDEA HAPPEN? No partnership required. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR IDEA NEEDED MORE FUNDING TO SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCH? No extra funding needed. WHAT MAKES YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY? Really like living in Leduc. Has everything except for a city wide garage sale. If implemented people will absolutely love it.71.over 1 year ago
Embolden Private Dayhome Community
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG IDEA Embolden Private Dayhome Community is Alberta's first and only membership community for private dayhome providers in Alberta. We connect parents and providers with the resources and support they need to navigate the private dayhome industry. We are gearing up to launch a members-only directory that will help showcase the best of the best in private care so that parents can easily access quality private childcare in Alberta. Our members are collectively committed to going above and beyond in their businesses and must meet a minimum set of requirements prior to being listed in our directory. WHAT IS THE MAIN GOAL FOR YOUR BIG IDEA? Only 1 in 3 children in Alberta have access to regulated care. Embolden PDC aims to bridge this gap in quality childcare by providing private providers with resources and support that are not otherwise accessible to them. Private childcare is unfairly stigmatized in Alberta as being less than because it's not recognized by the government - yet so many parents have no choice but to choose private childcare to meet their childcare needs. Our dream is to create a community that provides us with the ability to properly advocate for private dayhomes so that they can earn the visibility and credibility that they deserve. Because a supported and qualified workforce has a trickle effect that positively benefits the children of Alberta. We would also like to establish some form of partnership with the government to provide training and certification for private providers in Alberta. WHO DO YOU HOPE TO IMPACT THE MOST WITH YOUR IDEA? Embolden PDC aims to impact both the private providers of Alberta as well as the children and families that they serve. Private dayhome providers currently feel undervalued and underrepresented in Alberta, yet they make up nearly 2/3 of the childcare industry in Alberta. In fact, the private childcare industry is a massive workforce (45,000 strong) serving over 200,000 children. Ensuring that these providers have access to community, support and professional development helps to create an environment where providers and children will thrive. HOW LONG WILL THIS IDEA TAKE TO IMPLEMENT? (FROM "LAUNCH TO "LANDING") Embolden PDC is currently accepting registrations for membership but growth has been slow. We are looking forward to ramping things up with the launch of our directory tentatively planned for the end of May. We suspect it will take several years for our community to grow to a point of viability and to become fully sustainable. WHAT ARE AREAS OF EXPERTISE THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL IN SUPPORTING YOUR PROJECT? Financial resources to help with marketing efforts and access to influential people to help spread the word within our industry would be extremely impacting for us. GIVE A BREAKDOWN OF HOW MUCH YOU THINK YOUR IDEA WILL COST: Our directory development is predicted at $5000 (web development, lawyers fees, tech, etc). And we are continuously investing in marketing. We don't currently have a marketing budget, but we could execute a robust marketing plan if we had the funds to do so (estimated at $3500+ for the year). WHAT RESOURCES DO YOU ALREADY HAVE IN PLACE (PEOPLE, SKILLS, PAST-EXPERIENCE, FINANCES)? I am a private dayhome myself with 4 years of experience. I am also an educated provider with education in early learning and child development. I have recently obtained a small loan through Futurepreneur to help with the launch of Embolden PDC but funds are not specifically allocated to the directory. HAVE YOU OR COULD YOU PARTNER/COLLABORATE WITH OTHER GROUPS TO MAKE YOUR IDEA HAPPEN? I make a goal to partner with local women and experts whenever possible. Tammy from Institute of Child Psychology has done a course for us. Tina from Inspired Minds does our workshops and Kristin from EducAid Training Services is our official first aid trainer. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR IDEA NEEDED MORE FUNDING TO SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCH? My husband and I are prepared to financially carry Embolden as long as we can. We have low overhead but growth is difficult without additional funds to get us the exposure we need to really soar. Any additional funds to help our cause would be impacting for us. WHAT MAKES YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY? I have a passion for people and children and enjoy serving in my community. I find great joy in Emboldening providers to be the best they can be in their businesses. I also love to support other women entrepreneurs to help them change their communities for the better. I believe that with support and community, women can do anything.103.over 1 year ago
